The Canal du Midi
Hiking in the shade of plane trees
The Canal du Midi, built in the 17th century to connect the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean, is a splendid construction. Its highlight are the 9 locks of Fonserannes near Béziers. These 9 locks and 8 basins bring the canal to a 21,5 metre lower level over a distance of just 300 metres. Besides this exceptional outing, the canal also offers nice trips by boat, on foot or by bike.
